When you have a big event coming up, whether it is a party, a graduation, a work function or an extra special date night, you want to be feeling a million bucks. Sadly most of us don’t have the time to spend weeks and weeks preparing for an event or the money to invest in stylists, makeup artists and beauty treatments the way a celebrity might. However, this shouldn’t mean that you can’t look amazing on your big night! Here’s how to feel red-carpet ready for a big event, just be careful you don’t get mistaken for your favourite star!

Be Photo-Ready

Chances are there are going to photos taken on the night and you’re probably going to want to upload at least one to Instagram. This means, like a true celebrity on the red carpet, it’s important to be photo-ready. Part of this is knowing your angles and finding that perfect pose. We’ve all had that experience where everything feels fine when you’re having your photo taken and then you look at the photo and you look awkward or strange or just not good! A little bit of posing in the mirror before your event might feel silly, but it means you're far more likely to get the shot on the night. Have fun with it and remember that the best photos are the ones where you look the happiest, so make sure your smile is genuine! Other tips are to avoid foundations with SPF because this causes a white cast when the light hits it and will end up making you look a bit ghost-like in your photos!

Do Something To Destress

We don’t feel good when we’re stressed and it can be hard to look great when we’re not feeling our best. To combat this, in the lead-up to a big event make sure that you are practising plenty of self-care and taking time to destress each night. It can be hard to remain calm when you’re still deciding on an outfit or rushing around to make last-minute arrangements but taking five or ten minutes to sit down, breathe or collect your thoughts can make all the difference. Mindfulness, meditation, plenty of sleep and some light, daily exercise are all practices that can help you feel less stressed day-to-day.

We have an idea in our mind of what we want to wear and how we want to look and then we check the price tag and all that goes away! Reduce Alcohol And Sodium Intake In The Lead-Up

If you want to look like you’re straight out of Hollywood, it can be a good idea to go easy on the booze and salty foods.  A few drinks here and there never hurt anyone and we’re sure you’ll be indulging in some glasses of champagne at your event. However, both alcohol and salt can cause you to retain water and this leads to bloating, which will make you look and feel tired and full. Alcohol also dehydrates you and this can undo all the good work you might have achieved in making your skin look great. A hangover isn’t going to make you feel red-carpet ready at all, so in the lead up to the event make sure to drink lots of water and make healthy food choices.

Take Care of Your Skin

If you don’t have the time or money for a facial a few days before your event, there are still plenty of ways you can keep your skin looking fresh. An overnight face mask the night before the big day can help to make your skin look plump and bright, which means your makeup will apply more easily and smoothly that evening. During the week, make sure to stick to your morning and evening skin routine, whatever it may be, and consider adding exfoliator and serum if you don’t already use them. For a quick fix for puffy or baggy under-eye circles on the day, try popping two spoons in the freezer or using ice cubes and placing them on the area. The coldness will help to depuff and tighten the skin and you’ll look fresh as a daisy in no time.


As well as keeping your face smooth and soft, you should also make sure your legs, arms and any other exposed skin is looking the same. Smooth skin not only looks better, but it makes you feel better too. Make sure to moisturise daily, post-shower or just before you go to bed is usually a good option because you can lather lots of moisturiser on and give it time to sink into the skin. Exfoliating dry skin in the shower will also help to improve the appearance of flawless skin. On the day, you can mix a little highlighter, foundation or shimmer powder into your moisturiser to make your skin sparkle.
